History and Hurricanes

This semester is flying by extremely quick and stressful like as well. One thing that I love about this year is the fact that in my history class we have to do a book review. For anyone wants to know how much my husband and I love to read, you can stop by our house and see our 3 five shelf bookshelves, and our three shelf bookshelf that are all FULL. In this class, we get to pick what book we review, and then we can use it for a source for a research paper that we also pick the topic for. The book I am using is a fantastic non-fiction book that is written like historical fiction which is a plus for those of us who don't like non-fiction. It is Hemingway's Hurricane. You can get it here. It is a fantastic read so far, and I am only half-way through. I was hoping to finish it today, but I left it at home :(. Here are some other good books that I also have on the subject: 1, 2, and 3. If anyone wants to borrow these for a little extra reading just let me know!

And... I Am Back...

Ok, I know it has been a while since I have been on here. Please forgive me.

I am happy to report that it almost my favorite time of the year! The local school system starts back on Thursday, August 4th. I am definitely ready. My junior year of college at Austin Peay State University starts on August 29. Finally, on September 6th I will become a certified substitute teacher for Robertson County School System. (In two short years, I hope to be a teacher at Greenbrier Middle School.)

For an update of the married life, I am loving it. Even with all the little things that we are both still adjusting to I would not trade it for the world. Today is a very exciting day in our lives, because we now have internet!!! It makes me thankful for the fantastic reason that we have to have it because of my two online classes this semester.

I am going to try and be on here more often, but as many of the best laid plans often do, it might not happen.

But here is to trying!!

I hope everyone is having a fantastic summer. :)

Only 2 years, and seven and a half weeks, and two summer classes...

I am not excited at all about finishing college! Can you tell?! Right now, it is all I can do just to remind myself why I want to go to college. I want to make a difference, and help students have fun learning. However, I don't want to deal with the stuff that college finds necessary in order to get the degree to become the teacher that will make a difference.

Ok, rant over now. On the flip side, in only 95 days I will get to marry the man I love and begin to spend the rest of our lives together, and I can't wait!

Basketball and Life

Tonight as I sat at the high school basketball game between my two former schools I realized how fortunate I was to be able to move. My mom will probably never let me live this down, but I am extremely glad to have left Sycamore. These past few years have made it clear to me how everything there is just an example of what you would get if you tried to mix country and stuck up. However, not everyone there is like that, but just enough to ruin the bunch like bad apples in a crate. At GHS, most everyone really does care about everyone else. It is hard to find it, but I have here in my home of Greenbrier.

Spring Semester 2011

This spring semester is going well so far. I have only forgotten to do one assignment so far! I have only had classes for three days so far, and I know that sounds bad. Anyone who knows me well enough knows that is a BIG deal!

Today I have started a new blog for my education class, and if you want to follow along with my adventure here is the url: www.musingsfromthebrier.blogspot.com it is covering The 23 Things.

New Year and a Chair

This year has brought about some major changes in my life already. These were definitely not planned changes, but extremely welcomed.

The first change is organization. For many years I have waited for this particular bug to bite me. I had long since given up hope, but evidently when I started to organize Nick's house in order for it to become our house in June it kicked in!

This week I have organized, upgraded, and FINALLY used my desk area in my room without getting depressed about being in the little depressed cold corner between my bed and dresser. Also, I have been really good about saving money when I have shopped for things I have needed/wanted. For instance, I went with Nick with his first shopping trip of the year and we used coupons! Got a ton of groceries and household items for only $35! Another thing I am really excited about is my teacher types things.

The thing I am most proud of is my trip to Wal-Mart with my mom. We went and I only spent $42 and I got everything I would need this semester, but that could also be used in the classroom. Another thing I have done recently is ordered all the supplies needed to build my own library for my one day classroom. I already have all the books I could possibly need to have right now, but now I have the pockets for the back of it (they are adorable too!), the officially library style index card, and the organizer to hold the cards of the checked out books!

Another thing I have wanted since Fall of 2009 is a nice desk chair. I found one today at Office Depot. By the way, they have a great teacher rewards program and they let education students open it too. It was originally $100, but it was on sale for $59. After that I got a discount for the teacher rewards and walked out for $47 after tax! Luck was on my side today, because I wasn't wanting to put it together but did not want to pay to have it done. Luckily, they only ended up having one left so I got to get the display which was put together already for no constructing fee!
